Profile
"...not just a great driver, but a great thinker..."
-- Sir Jackie Stewart
Quite a commendation from one of the greatest racing drivers in History!
Ryan Sharp is a scottish racing driver from the North-East of Scotland, who has demonstrated exceptional ability throughout his motor-racing career, from his stunning speed in karts - while racing against far better funded outfits, to his excellent 2007 FIA GT Championship debut season, he has alwas demonstrated the kind of skill to justify comments like those from Sir Jackie.
Ryan's career began in Karting, like many others and he quickly found he had a talent for it, eventually he progressed to driving cars and in 2003, won the German Formula Renault 2000 chamionship, with Jenzer Motorsport. He stayed with the team for 2004 and narrowly missed out on the 2004 Formula Renault v6 Eurocup title. In 2005 Ryan joined british team David Price Racing to contest the new GP2 Series, the replacement for F3000 - and new F1 feeder series. Unfortunatley, the car was never in a position to challenge the frontrunners, and this meant Ryan couldn't race effectivley and demonstrate his skills. He left the team part way through the season and joined Jenzer again to contest the final few rounds of the new Formula Renault 3.5l championship.
2006 saw a change in Ryan's career, moving from single-seaters into touring cars, with Italian team JAS Motorsport, Ryan raced in the Yokahama Independents class and adapted well and won on a number of occasions in the class, and took an overall 2nd place in Race 1 of the round at Curitiba in Brazil. Budget restrictions meant he missed the final 2 rounds, including the season ending Macau races (in which independent drivers scored double points), and so eventually finished the championship in 4th place.
